The mission of the Accessibility Unit, for people with disabilities and people with special educational needs, which is part of the project “Support of Equal Access Interventions for People with Disabilities and Other Special Educational Needs at IHU” (MIS 6017332), is to ensure the full participation of members of the academic community who have disabilities or special educational needs in all educational, research, and administrative activities carried out at the International Hellenic University.

People with disabilities and special educational needs include those who have:

  • Intellectual disability,
  • Sensory Visual Disabilities (blind, blunt people with low vision),
  • Sensory Hearing Disabilities (deaf, hard of hearing),
  • Physical disabilities,
  • Chronic incurable diseases,
  • Speech-language disorders,
  • Specific Learning Difficulties (SpLDs) such as dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia, dyspraxia
  • Attention Deficit Syndrome with or without Hyperactivity (Now Attention Deficit Disorders with or without Hyperactivity_ADHD)
  • Pervasive developmental disorders (autism spectrum), (now Autism Spectrum Disorders – ASD)
  • Mental disorders and multiple disabilities,
  • People with complex cognitive, emotional and social difficulties, delinquent behaviour due to abuse, parental neglect and abandonment or due to domestic violence, belong to people with special educational needs.
  • Persons who have one or more mental abilities and talents developed to a degree that far exceeds those expected for their age group (Law 3699/2008)
