Disability Policy
The International Hellenic University aims to ensure equal access to academic studies for students with disabilities or with different abilities and needs. The University strives to create conditions that make the campus accessible to all members of the academic community, with particular emphasis on people with disabilities, recognizing that limited physical accessibility often equates to limited access to knowledge.
Disability’ Policy core activities include:
- Modifications to existing buildings to make them accessible (e.g. installation of ramps, elevators, handrails, accessible restrooms, special signs for individuals with visual impairments, low water coolers, and designated parking spaces for people with disabilities). Additionally, accessibility standards are ensured for all future building constructions.
- Provision of psychosocial support and counselling to students with disabilities, enrolled across all Schools and Departments, of the International Hellenic University. Systematic organization of assistive technology tools, including freely available software, with useful information such as: product name, version, developer, product category, associated disabilities, application description, operating system, installation process, configuration settings, and download instructions.
- Future plans include the creation of workstations, for individuals with visual impairments, equipped with computers and Braille printers.
- The Health and Safety Coordinating Committee is responsible for the implementation of the University’s policy on disability-related issues.
